Learn information about common skin illnesses. In this article, we will discuss a variety of skin illnesses including, acne, eczema, measles, and the condition known as a skin blister. Skin illnesses each have a common factor, discover more by reading this article.

General skin illnesses refer to conditions, disorders or diseases affecting the skin. This can include a wide range of symptoms including blemishes, bumps, rashes, raised skin, flaking, and more. These rashes can result in dryness, irritation, scarring, intense itching, pain, fever and more.

Acne is probably the most common skin condition that can affect a wide range of people from adolescents to adults. Acne blemishes can appear on the face, chest, neck, back, shoulders, and arms. These blemishes may be in the form of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, nodules, or cysts. A number of factors including hormonal changes, stress, or clogged pores due to excess oil, sweat, or makeup causes this irritating skin condition. A dermatologist who might use topical treatments such as, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or antibiotics, surgery, microdermabrasion or chemical peels may treat this skin condition.

Eczema or atopic dermatitis is a long-term skin disorder that is characterized by dry, scaly, itchy, inflamed skin rashes. If left untreated, eczema can lead to thickening of the skin and the skin can develop a leathery texture. According to Health Line, this condition is caused by an allergic reaction that results in long-term inflammation. Those at risk of developing this condition are those with a family history of allergic the disease or conditions such as, asthma or hay fever. To treat this dry skin condition, thick lotions and creams must be applied liberally to the affected skin. The doctor may prescribe a medicated lotion or oral medications to treat the condition. Prevention of this itchy and unsightly skin condition includes avoiding fabrics, detergents (including soap), or dyes that may agitate the rash, and applying liberal lubrication into the affected skin.

Measles or Rubeola is a highly contagious disease that is characterized by a large, blotchy rash. This disease is spread through contact with infected surfaces or infected air droplets (sneezing, coughing, or speaking). The MMR vaccine or measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine offers the only protection or immunization from these diseases, which is why having children vaccinated is so important for preventing the spread of this disease

A Skin Blister is a small, raised lesion that is filled with fluid. Blisters on the skin are caused by various reasons such as, an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis), frostbite, second or third degree burns, an underlying illness (impetigo, incontinentia pigmenti syndrome and pemphigus vulgaris), a skin disorder, severe friction and trauma to the skin. Treatment of a skin blister is determined by a doctor based on the cause and severity of the condition.

In this article, we have listed information regarding the signs and symptoms of these conditions as well as, the prevention and treatment options, too. These skin conditions may present complications if left untreated. However, common skin illnesses such as, the conditions discussed in this article, are typically easy to cure, and especially if the signs and symptoms are detected and treated early the prognosis will be positive.
